About this tool
Check that your webcam works before a video call. See the live picture, the resolution the camera really delivers, the measured frame rate and the list of cameras the browser can find.
Ask for a specific resolution to find out what your camera supports, and save a snapshot. If the camera doesn’t start, you get the reason and the steps that usually fix it.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
Why does my webcam show a black picture?
Usually another app is using the camera, or a privacy cover or camera key has turned it off. Close video-call apps, check the cover, and try again.
What frame rate is normal for a webcam?
Most webcams deliver 30 frames per second in good light. In dim light many cameras slow down to 15 fps or less to gather more light.
Is anything recorded during the test?
No. The picture is only shown in your browser. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
Is Webcam Test free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
