About this tool

See how camera sensor formats compare, drawn to scale: medium format, full frame, APS-H, APS-C, 4/3″, 1″ and the small sensors used in compact cameras and phones. Pick the formats to overlay, centered or lined up in a corner.

The table lists each format’s size, diagonal, area and crop factor, and the calculator shows the full-frame equivalent focal length and depth of field for any lens.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

What is the crop factor?

It is how many times smaller a sensor’s diagonal is than full frame. Multiply a lens’s focal length by it to get the field of view it gives on full frame.

What does a size like 1/2.3″ mean?

These “inch” names come from old video tubes and don’t match the real size: a 1/2.3″ sensor is only about 6.2 × 4.6 mm. That’s why the chart shows the actual dimensions.

Does a bigger sensor give better photos?

A bigger sensor collects more light, which means less noise in dim light and a shallower depth of field at the same framing. Lenses and processing matter too.

Is Sensor Size Chart free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
