How to use Rename Images

  1. Choose or drop your images. You can add several at once.
  2. Adjust the settings and check the preview.
  3. Download the result, or every file at once as a ZIP.

About this tool

Rename many image files at once with a pattern. Combine the original name, a running number, the date the photo was taken and its width and height, for example “holiday-{n}” or “{date}-{name}”.

A table shows every new name before you download, duplicates are numbered automatically, and the files are packed into a ZIP with their original bytes untouched: no re-compression and no lost metadata.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

Does renaming change the image quality?

No. Only the file names change. Every file in the ZIP is byte-for-byte identical to the original, including its EXIF data.

Where does the date come from?

With “Date taken”, the date stored in the photo by the camera is used. Images without it, such as screenshots, use the file’s date instead.

How do I number files 001, 002, 003?

Use {n} in the pattern and choose 001 under Digits. Auto uses as many digits as the largest number needs.

Is Rename Images free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
