Password Protect
Lock an image with a password
Runs in your browser. Files never leave your device.
How to use Password Protect
- Add the images you want to protect, or the .locked files you want to open.
- Enter a strong password (twice when locking).
- Download the locked files, or the unlocked original images.
About this tool
Lock images with a password so only people who know it can open them. Each file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from your password with PBKDF2-SHA-256, and saved as a .locked file you can store or send anywhere.
To open a locked file, drop it here and enter the password: the original image comes back byte for byte, with its name. Everything happens in your browser and the password never leaves the page.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
What happens if I forget the password?
The file can’t be opened. There is no recovery or back door, which is what keeps it safe, so store the password somewhere secure.
Can someone else open a .locked file?
Anyone with the password can open it here. Without the password, the contents stay encrypted and unreadable.
Can I lock several images at once?
Yes. All files are locked with the same password and downloaded together as a ZIP. You can also hide the original file names.
Is Password Protect free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
