About this tool

Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 checksums of image files. Use them to check that a download is complete, that two files are identical, or that a picture hasn’t been changed since it was published.

Paste a known checksum to compare it against every file at once, and copy or download the results in the standard checksum format.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

Why do two identical-looking images have different hashes?

A hash is calculated from the exact bytes of the file. Different metadata, a different compression setting or a single changed pixel gives a completely different hash.

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is the usual choice today. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for spotting accidental changes but shouldn’t be relied on against deliberate tampering.

Is Image Hash free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
