About this tool

Draw a grid over a reference photo to copy it accurately by hand, the classic grid method artists use for drawing and painting. Choose the number of rows and columns, or set the cell size in centimeters, millimeters or inches at your print resolution.

Add diagonal lines for extra guidance, letter and number the rows and columns, and turn the photo black and white to judge light and dark values more easily.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

How do I make a grid with 1-inch or 2-centimeter squares?

Choose “Cell size”, enter the size and unit, and set the print resolution you will print at. When the photo has a DPI value, it is filled in for you.

Should I draw the same grid on my paper?

Yes. Draw a grid with the same number of rows and columns lightly on your paper, then copy the photo one cell at a time.

Can I add a grid to several photos at once?

Yes. Add them all; the same grid settings are used for each.

Is Grid Maker free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
