About this tool
Solarization partly reverses the tones of a photo, the way briefly exposing a print to light in the darkroom does. Tones past the turning point are inverted, which creates glowing outlines and surreal colors.
Move the turning point to choose which tones flip, reverse the shadows instead of the highlights, or work in black and white for a classic darkroom print.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
What is the Sabattier effect?
It is the darkroom technique this filter imitates: re-exposing a partly developed print to light reverses some of its tones and outlines the shapes.
How do I get a subtle result?
Lower the amount, or move the turning point toward the brightest tones so only the highlights are reversed.
Is Solarize free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
