About this tool

See your photo the way it would look on a strip of film. Color film negatives are not just inverted: they have an orange-brown base and lower contrast, and this tool reproduces that look. Black and white film and a plain inverse are also available.

Lower the orange base for a cleaner, bluer inverse, or switch to the plain inverse when you need exactly opposite colors.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

Why is a color negative orange?

Color negative film has an orange mask built into its base that corrects the color dyes during printing. It is why real negatives look orange-brown.

Can I turn a scanned negative back into a positive photo?

Use the plain inverse here or the Invert Colors tool for a basic conversion. Scanned color negatives usually also need color correction afterwards because of the orange base.

Is Negative free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
