About this tool
Create dummy images at exactly the size you need for wireframes, layouts and test pages. By default the image shows its own dimensions, or type any label; {w} and {h} are replaced by the width and height.
Download it as PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or a tiny SVG, or copy the data URI and paste it straight into an img tag or a CSS url() without hosting a file.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
Which format is best for placeholders?
SVG is the smallest and stays sharp at any size, which makes it ideal as a data URI. Use PNG or JPG when a system only accepts bitmap images.
Can I make common banner sizes?
Yes. The presets include standard web banner sizes such as 300 × 250, 728 × 90 and 160 × 600, as well as screen sizes like 1280 × 720 and 1920 × 1080.
Why is no data URI shown for very large images?
Data URIs for images over about 4 megapixels become impractically long. Download the file instead, or choose SVG, which is tiny at any size.
Is Placeholder Image free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
