About this tool
Turn photos into paintings with visible brush strokes. A Kuwahara filter flattens each area into a stroke of paint while keeping edges crisp, then a light relief adds the texture of thick paint.
A larger brush gives broader, more abstract strokes. Fewer paint levels flatten the tones further, and the color slider makes the paint richer or more muted.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
How does the oil painting effect work?
For every pixel the filter looks at four neighboring areas and paints with the color of the calmest one. Detail inside areas disappears while outlines stay sharp, just like brush strokes.
Why does it take a moment on large photos?
The filter examines every pixel’s surroundings. Large photos take a few seconds at full size, but the preview updates quickly.
Is Oil Painting free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
