About this tool

Encode images as Base64 so you can embed them directly in HTML, CSS, JSON or emails without a separate file. Choose a ready-to-paste data URI, a CSS background rule, an HTML image tag, a Markdown image or the plain Base64 text.

You can encode several images at once and copy each result with one click. The real file type is detected from the data, so the data URI always names the correct format.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

When should I use Base64 images?

For small icons, logos and placeholders, inlining saves a request. For photos and anything over a few kilobytes it usually slows pages down, because Base64 is about a third larger and can’t be cached separately.

Why is the Base64 text bigger than the file?

Base64 turns every 3 bytes into 4 text characters, so the result is about 33% larger than the original image.

Which output should I copy?

Use the data URI for src attributes, the CSS option for stylesheets, the HTML option for a complete image tag, and plain Base64 for APIs and JSON fields that ask for the raw data.

Is Image to Base64 free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
