How to use DPI Checker

  1. Add your images to see their current DPI and print size.
  2. Choose the new DPI.
  3. Download the updated files.

About this tool

Check the DPI stored in JPG and PNG files and see how large they print. Change the DPI to 72, 96, 150, 300, 600 or any value for one image or a whole batch, for example when a print shop or form asks for 300 DPI.

Changing DPI doesn’t touch the pixels. JPG and PNG files are updated in place without losing any quality, and other formats are saved as PNG or JPG with the new resolution.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

Does changing DPI make my image sharper?

No. It only changes the print size the file asks for. To print larger at the same quality you need more pixels.

Why does my image show 72 DPI?

Many cameras, phones and apps write 72 DPI by default, or no value at all. It has no effect on screens, only on printing.

What DPI do print shops want?

Usually 300 DPI for photos and documents viewed up close, and 150 DPI or less for large posters seen from a distance.

Is DPI Checker free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
