About this tool
Turn a PNG, JPG, SVG or any other image into a .ico file with several sizes inside, from 16 × 16 up to 256 × 256 pixels. Programs pick the size that fits, so the icon stays sharp in a browser tab, a desktop shortcut or a file list.
Images that aren’t square can be fitted with transparent space around them or cropped to fill the square, and you can add padding, rounded corners or a background color. Every size is shown at its actual pixel size before you download.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
Which sizes should an ICO file contain?
16, 32 and 48 pixels cover browser tabs, taskbars and most desktop views. Add 256 for large icon views on desktop computers. Sizes in between are optional.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the ICO, which keeps full transparency and is supported by all current browsers and operating systems.
What image works best?
A simple, bold, square design at least 256 pixels wide. Fine detail and thin text disappear at 16 pixels, so check the smallest preview.
Is ICO Converter free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
