About this tool
Turn color photos into rich black and white images. Like the colored filters photographers put in front of the lens, the channel mix decides how bright each color becomes: a red filter darkens blue skies, a green filter lightens foliage.
Start from a filter preset, then fine-tune the red, green and blue mix, contrast and brightness. An optional warm, cool or selenium toning gives prints a classic darkroom feel.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between black and white and grayscale?
Grayscale simply removes the color. Black and white conversion lets you decide how each color translates into gray, which gives you much more control over contrast and mood.
Which filter is best for portraits?
An orange or red filter smooths skin tones and hides blemishes. A green filter makes skin darker and more textured.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like; the same settings are applied to all of them and you can download them together as a ZIP.
Is Black & White free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
