About this tool
Convert a picture into text characters. Each character stands for a small area of the image, with denser characters for darker parts, so the picture appears when you look at the text from a distance.
Choose a character set, the width in characters, color or single-color output and a light or dark background. Copy the text, save it as a .txt file, or download it as an image.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
Why does my ASCII art look stretched when I paste it?
ASCII art needs a monospace font, where every character has the same width. Paste it into a code block or set the font to a monospace one such as Courier.
What width should I choose?
About 60–100 characters is good for chats and code comments. Wider art shows more detail but needs a small font to fit on screen.
Can I keep the colors?
Yes, in the image download: choose “Full color” and each character takes the color of its part of the picture. Plain text files can’t store colors.
Is ASCII Art free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
