About this tool
Turn a part of an MP4, WebM or MOV video into an animated GIF. Drag the handles on the timeline to choose the start and end, then set the frame rate, width and speed; the frame count and an estimated file size update as you go.
Frames are taken straight from the video and encoded in your browser, so even private clips never leave your device. Short clips of a few seconds at 10–15 fps and 320–480 pixels wide make GIFs that are easy to share.
- Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Questions and answers
Why is my GIF so much larger than the video?
GIF is a very old format without modern video compression, so every second of motion costs a lot. Use a shorter part, a lower frame rate, a smaller width or more lossy compression to bring the size down.
Which video formats work?
Any video your browser can play: MP4 with H.264 and WebM work everywhere, MOV works in most browsers, and HEVC videos depend on your system.
Can I speed up the clip in the GIF?
Yes. Choose a speed such as 2× and the GIF plays twice as fast, with the same smoothness.
Is Video to GIF free?
Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
