About this tool

Convert an animated GIF to an MP4 video, which is usually much smaller and can be posted where GIFs aren’t accepted. Every frame keeps its own timing, and transparent areas get the background color you choose.

Short GIFs make very short videos, so you can repeat the animation several times. The video is encoded as H.264 in your browser; where that isn’t available, a WebM video is made instead and you are told so.

  • Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
  • No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.

Questions and answers

Why is the MP4 smaller than the GIF?

Video codecs store motion far more efficiently than GIF, so the same animation often takes 5–20 times less space.

Can the video keep the GIF’s transparency?

No. MP4 videos have no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color.

Will the video loop like the GIF?

Videos play once unless the player or site loops them. Use “Play the GIF” to repeat the animation inside the video.

Is GIF to MP4 free?

Yes. Every tool on ImgImage is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser and never leave your device. Nothing you open here is sent to a server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Large files are processed faster on a computer.
